JDM Driving School have a simple philosophy. We aim to be the kind of company that good driving instructors would work for. We then beleive we will attract and keep the kind of driving instructors that customers would want to learn with and to be happy to pay for.

We buy the best cars and recruit the best instructors. We re-train staff to improve standards and keep everyone up to date and we maintain cars to improve reliability.
We are certainly one of the largest of the Sheffield based schools and we believe that our Sheffield roots give us an edge over bigger companies that come into the city from elsewhere.

JDM driving school were founded in 1993 in Sheffield, South Yorks by the current proprietor, Alan Marsden ADI. |
|
|
They take their name from the initials of Jayne Dawn Marsden. Jayne died from breast cancer in 1991. Her husband, Alan decided to honour her memory by naming his new business venture after her.

For a few years, Alan ran JDM as a one man operation. However the company was very successful in attracting new business and a number of driving instructors expresed interest in joining.

OUR PAST and OUR FUTURE:
JDM were founded in 1993. They take their name from the initials of Jayne Dawn Marsden. Jayne died in 1991 from breast cancer, aged 29. Her husband, Alan became a driving instructor shortly afterwards and in July, 1993, founded JDM Driving School in her memory. |

JDM were a typical one man operation for a few years, but Alan gradually recruited a team consisting of friends in the business and people who were recommended to him. By our tenth anniversary, we had a team of around a dozen fully qualified, experienced and highly motivated instructors. We have consolidated at this size ever since.

We have no plans for world domination. Whilst other schools are actively recruiting new and inexperienced instructors (You've seen the TV ads!) we want to keep and find the best. All our team have upwards from three to 22 years of experience..
Experience in our job is worth paying for!
For example, an inexperienced instructor will take several hours to diagnose and correct a fault that an experienced ADI will deal with inside a single lesson. A good instructor is like a sports coach, and we want your JDM instructor to work for YOU by getting the best out of YOU! |

THE QUEST FOR QUALITY
To teach a learner driver you have to be 21 and to have 3 years experience of driving on a full licence. To charge money or any other reward for driving lessons you have to have qualified as a Trainee Driving Instructor or to become a fully qualified ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) Trainees will have passed an extended Theory Test and an extended driving test and will have to pass their third exam within the next 6 months to become an ADI.
The third exam is a test of instructional ability and many trainees fail to beat this hurdle. JDM only recruit instructors that have passed all three exams and are therefore fully qualified and proven to be fit to instruct

Quality begins with Good Recruitment
Not every instructor who has joined JDM has been an instant success, but we always try to recruit the most suitable. All newcomers will have to be fully qualified ADI's and all will have shown a commitment to personal improvement. Those that fail to develop and improve will be hounded and helped in equal measure. This means that the better ones improve and stay and the lesser ones leave. We're confident our present team are all of a like mind and all proud to be delivering quality and good service.

Further Training
Most driving instructors work hard to pass their exams to become fully qualified. Unfortunately few take any further training even though government inspectors will see them every 2 to 4 years and do have the powers to remove their licence to teach (ADI Badge). At JDM, it is compulsary for all our instructors to attend training days every single year. We also put new recruits with a Mentor (A more experienced colleague) to help them develop quickly from newcomer to experienced ADI. | |

We encourage improvement
JDM are committed to being around for many years to come. The 15 years we have been in Sheffield is only the beginning. We know that our long term future depends on delivering our customers the opportunity and chance to pass their driving test first time. We give financial incentives to our instructors to reward them for good pass rates. |

We Value Our Staff
When the teachers are happy, the pupils are happy. JDM offer the best possible package to our instructors and give plenty of support to our staff. We know we can't please everyone all the time, but we are determined to try and try again. By looking after our staff, we believe we can ensure they look after you. We don't have shareholders, we're not owned by corperations or some distant guy in a far off town, we are on your doorstep and we're here for you. | |

The Proprietor:
Alan Marsden ADI
Alan was born in Sheffield and attended Carfield & Newfield schools. He has served an apprenticeship as a motor vehicle technician and has worked for distributors of motor vehicle parts. He spent 4 years working as a district franchise manager with Peugeot Motor Company and has also worked in the sales dept of a local car dealer. Teaching people to drive means that Alan has been involved with all aspects of the motor vehicle from Manufacture, parts, service and sales and now the actual driving. |
